How can you fix up a wood swing set?
How can you fix up a wood swing set?
We just bought a house and it has an older wood swingset (which I hate the wood), Whats the best way to get that new look back again, is there any kind of coating I can put over it so the kids can’t get splinters? Any suggestions on what to put on the pieces of wood that they use to climb on to the slide (they are not steps, just like wood slats) so they don’t have to put their feet on the wood itself, I would like to cover the whole wood platform on the top of the slide with something too.
Build Your Own Wood Shed – Planning a Wood Shed
Build Your Own Wood Shed – Planning a Wood Shed
A few years ago I decided to build my own wood shed, it turned out a disaster. Don’t get me wrong, for a first attempt it was not too bad, a little slapdash maybe, but considering I didn’t have a proper set of plans.
No, the problem was I hadn’t applied for a building permit and the home owners association wasn’t too pleased either. So, within a couple of months I had to take it down again. The result was three wasted weekends and a complete waste of money.
Lesson one: If you are going to build your own wood shed make sure you get proper planning permission and check that you do not contravene any building guidelines. To do this you absolutely need a proper set of plans including a list of materials to be used. This small outlay will more than pay for itself.
A good set of plans will come with a chart showing the size of your wood cuts. If you are not using a DIY shed kit it may be possible to get your wood cut to size at your local timber yard saving you a lot of sawing. If you are cutting your own wood remember the old adage ‘measure twice, cut once’.
A good deal of consideration should be given to the positioning of the shed in relation to your house. Don’t just throw it up only to find you’ve blocked out the light from the wife’s favourite suntrap!
Make sure that your foundations are sound and give some thought to things such as; will I need electricity, will my shed blend in with the surrounding buildings/landscape. With good planning and a good set of plans building your own shed will be an enjoyable venture providing years of service and may give you the confidence to take on more ambitious projects in the future.
What type of wood should I use when building a built in entertainment center?
I’m looking for a wood that won’t sag over time or be extremely heavy. I was told to stay away from partical board (will sag) and plywood (way to heavy). I want to stain the wood, not paint it white or anything like that so I need a wood that looks nice also. I was told to use a solid hardwood but I can’t seem to find ’sheets’ of wood wide enough to build an entertainment system. Any info (along with websites that sell the stuff) would be appreciated.
